   Salutations!

I am very pleased to announce we are open for business! I have lots of exciting ideas and programs that I would like to implement. Everything depends on group participation. I am only one person with a vision and I need all of the membership to achieve these goals. It is time for us and our friends to come together as a village to build a community of networking professionals.

For those who don't know me, I graduated from Southern University. NOBCChE was a bring part of my college experience and I want to share this with up and coming scientists. There is no reason why any student has to be the "lone wolf" in Los Angeles when there are plenty of minority scientists and engineers that can provide the guidance and encouragement. Mentoring should not only be on the college level but should extend to the professional arena.

In an effort to resolve traffic issues and participation, the Los Angeles chapter will be innovator by using a new organizational structure. In addition to a new structure we will utilize web conferencing and other technologies for some of our meetings. Please let me know how you feel about these changes. I am always open to suggestions, comments, or a good conversation at Starbucks. We are hoping these new tools will make the participation and retention easier on the members.

Looking forward to meeting everybody,

- Christalyn Leary
